Eileen Thacker, '78 DVM, PhD, and Brad Thacker, '78 DVM, '82 MS, '85 PhD, were recently awarded with the Science with Practice Award at the Iowa State University (ISU) James D. McKean Swine Disease Conference in Ames, Iowa. ISU's College of Veterinary Medicine recognizes their rich contributions to research and practical application of veterinary swine medicine including Eileen's research on the control of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae and Brad's knowledge of disease control and elimination.
Deepack Deshpande, DVM, MS, '04 PhD, was recently promoted to associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University, Sidney Kimmel Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa.
In it’s January issue, The Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association highlighted a coalition of international researchers looking for a link between infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) and the influenza A virus in chickens. In November 2019, this project received a million-dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture. Marie Culhane, '97 DVM, '07 PhD, associate professor in the Department of Veterinary Population Medicine, was featured as a co-investigator on this project.
Culhane's career has focused on studying influenza viruses in all species - especially swine and turkeys. Her research in this project seeks to better understand the impact of IBDV exposure and the spread of the avian influenza virus.
Derek Korpela, '11 DVM, '19 PhD, started as a study director at American Preclinical Services in December 2019.
Fuyuan Wang, DVM, '13 MS, '15 PhD, recently became certified as a diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology.
Margaret McNulty, '10 PhD, recently received the American Association for Anatomy's Basmajian Award for her excellence in both teaching and research at the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Ind.
Michael Rahe, DVM, '17 PhD, was recently promoted to clinical assistant professor at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa in May.
Alicia Butler, '19 DVM, recently started a new position as associate veterinarian at Countryside Veterinary Clinic in May 2019.
Douglas Marthaler, '14 PhD, recently started a new position as sequence specialist at Illumnia in July 2019.
