The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is proud to recognize four outstanding members of our community with 2025 CVM research awards. 

These honors reflect the exceptional creativity, productivity, and impact of CVM researchers across a wide range of disciplines and career stages.

CVM Mark of Excellence Award

Recipient: Declan Schroeder

This annual award honors a faculty member for outstanding productivity in generating new knowledge relevant to the veterinary profession. 

Schroeder, a professor in the Department of Veterinary and Population Medicine, is recognized for his impactful research on the role of viral diversity as it relates to seaweed, bee, and animal production, and for establishing best detection and surveillance practices for viral pathogens responsible for significant losses to important agricultural species. Schroeder is an authority in the field of viral diversity, evolution, and ecology whose work has been widely shared through peer-reviewed publications and international presentations.

Zoetis Award for Veterinary Research Excellence

Recipient: Noelle Noyes

Sponsored by Zoetis, this award recognizes faculty whose research has achieved or shows strong potential to achieve international recognition. 

Noyes, an associate professor in the Department of Veterinary Population Medicine, is honored for her innovative, data-driven approach to addressing antimicrobial resistance and improving food animal health. Her work bridges microbiology, epidemiology, and informatics to support more sustainable systems of food production. A prolific researcher, she is widely sought after as a collaborator, leading multi-institutional projects that integrate veterinary medicine, microbiology, and data science.

CVM Distinguished Research Alum Award

Recipient: Joe Bartges

This award honors CVM alumni who have brought distinction to their fields through research achievements. 

Bartges (PhD '93), now professor of internal medicine, interventional radiology, and nutrition at the University of Georgia, is celebrated for his stellar academic career in basic and clinical research with internationally recognized and enduring contributions to the fields of veterinary nephrology, urology, and nutrition. A world-renowned expert in small animal internal medicine and nutrition, he has published extensively, led pioneering clinical research, and trained generations of veterinary specialists.

CVM Research Staff Excellence Award

Recipient: Xiaomei Yue

Launched in 2025, this new award recognizes exceptional research staff. Yue, a senior scientist in the Corzo lab, brings technical expertise, scientific insight, and a collaborative spirit to every project she touches. Her leadership in data analysis and study design has significantly advanced the lab’s work in swine health and disease prevention and led to several high-profile presentations.
