Roger Newman, ’74 DVM, passed away. 

Charles Chesney, ’70 DVM, Inver Grove Heights, Minn., died on Nov. 21, 2022.

Juan Vargas, ’73 PhD, died on April 3, 2020. He completed his PhD in veterinary obstetrics and gynecology.

Clair Lewis "Lew" Henke, ’72 MS, Grand Blanc, Mich., died on Sept. 14, 2022, at age 88. He received his MS in veterinary biology. Henke is survived by his wife, Irene; two sons; and five grandchildren.

Damodar R. Deshmukh, ’67 PhD, Ballwin, Mo., passed away on June 14, 2022, at age 84. Deshmukh worked for the federal government as a pathologist until 2005. He specialized in the transmission of diseases from animals to humans. Deshmukh is survived by his wife, Nirmala; two sons; and five grandkids.

Larry Paisley, ’72 PhD, died on Jan. 21, 2020. He received his MS in veterinary obstetrics and gynecology. 

Dr. Keum Hwa Choi, DVM, ’90 PhD, Shoreview, Minn., died on May 8, 2023, at age 69. She worked for nearly four decades at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, founding its complementary and alternative medicine service. Choi is survived by her daughter, mother, and four sisters.

Mary Urhausen, ’73 DVM, Milwaukee, died on Nov. 20, 2018, at age 70. Urhausen acquired a love for animals while growing up on a farm. After obtaining her DVM, she worked for many years at Franksville Veterinary Clinic in Franksville, Wis. Urhausen is survived by two sisters, her brother, a cousin, and other relatives and friends.

Janice Niedermeier, ’73 DVM, Clinton, Wis., died on Aug. 4, 2021, at age 71. Niedermeier operated Healthy Companions Veterinary Clinic in Janesville, Wis.
