  • William Clauson, ’70 DVM, Brainerd, Minn., died on Sept. 10, 2023, at age 78. Clauson started his veterinary career working for the Slayton Veterinary Clinic in Slayton, Minn. He is survived by his wife, a sister, three stepdaughters, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

  • Russell Wambeam, ’65 DVM, Laramie, Wy., died on July 18, 2023, at age 88. After graduating from veterinary school, he practiced in Minnesota before moving to Laramie and running a veterinary hospital for several decades. He also taught classes in Animal Care at the University of Wyoming. He is survived by four children, five grandchildren, two sisters, and a brother.

  • Wayne Sletten, ’56 DVM, Rapid City, S.D. died on Aug. 21, 2023, at age 90. Sletten and his wife, Karen, moved to Faith, S.D., where they began the Faith Veterinary Service practice and raised their five children. His business flourished and his practice spanned over 50 years. He also served as president of the South Dakota Veterinarian Association. Sletten is survived by his wife, five children, 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and his sister and brother-in-law.

  • Arnold “Arnie” Follstad, ’60 DVM, Red Wing, Minn, died on Aug. 25, 2023, at age 94. Follstad worked as a veterinarian for 34 years. Beginning his practice in 1960, he owned and operated a clinic in Ellendale, Minn. In 1968, he went into a partnership at Hiawatha Valley Veterinary Clinic where he worked until 1994. After, he continued working for the USDA in Faribault from 2004 until his retirement in 2009. He is survived by his wife, seven children, 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two nephews.

  • Curtis Sanford, ’90 DVM, Brooklyn Park, Minn., died on Aug. 11, 2023, at age 59. In 1995, he purchased Willmar Pet Hospital in Willmar, Minn. In 2009, he sold Willmar Pet Hospital and built a new hospital in downtown Minneapolis where he worked until 2018. He is survived by many family members and friends.

  • Daniel Suther, ’54 DVM, died on Aug. 8, 2023.

  • Robert W. Page, ’54 DVM, Alexandria, Minn., died on Aug. 11, 2023, at age 95. Page built a career as an epidemiologist, earning international recognition as a leader in animal disease control and eradication. He is survived by his son, Bill Page.

  • Alana Gage, ’22 DVM, died on July 18, 2023, following a battle with cancer. After graduating, Gage began practicing veterinary medicine at VCA Blum Animal Hospital in Chicago. She also worked as a veterinary technician at VCA Blum for many years prior to attending veterinary school.

  • John C. Rodgers, ’83 DVM, ’08 MS, Fairmont, Minn., died on July 18, 2023, at age 68. Rodgers worked as a large animal veterinarian at the Fairmont Veterinary Clinic for 13 years where he enjoyed caring for local farms. He then became a beef cattle reproductionist and consultant with Pfizer Animal Health. He is survived by his wife, four daughters, 10 grandchildren, a sister, his mother-in-law, and other relatives and friends.
