Joni Scheftel, DVM ’82, ’01 MPH, has been named “Veterinarian of the Year” by the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association.

VETgirl, an online veterinary continuing education webinar service for veterinary professionals, has given a gift to establish the VETgirl Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Scholarship at CVM.

This past fall, the college introduced “Crash Nights,” weekly programs that invite DVM students to meet virtually with alumni for fun activities and educational discussions.

Julian Montoya Lopez, DVM, was recently selected as the recipient of the Carlos Pijoan Graduate Student Fellowship in Swine Medicine for the 2020–21 school year.

On a fall day for the past several years, around 30 students and staff members from the College of Veterinary Medicine have packed up a caravan of cars and made a 3.5-hour drive north to Hawley, Minn. There, the group converges with another set of volunteers headed by Sarah Lee, ’02 DVM, who owns Lee Veterinary Clinic and organizes an annual free castration clinic for horses.

Diversity and inclusion are at the center of a new discussion series organized by the VOICE Club (Veterinarians as One Inclusive Community for Empowerment) at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine.
