PhD student Miranda Medrano to represent CVM at Science in Seconds

Dr. Miranda Medrano, a PhD student at the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), will be representing the College at the St. Paul Science in Seconds competition.

Medrano earned her spot in the competition at the CVM Three-Minute Thesis (TMT) event, held on Sept. 28. The competition challenges graduate students to present their thesis work in three minutes or less in a manner that is compelling, engaging, and can be understood by an intelligent audience with no background in the research area.

Advised by Drs. Marie Culhane and Cesar Corzo, Medrano’s thesis is titled “Outdoor Pig Farms, What’s the Big SQUEAL?” and focuses on investigating how non-traditional pig farms in Minnesota deal with disease and health issues. (Learn more about Medrano’s work here.)

At Science in Seconds, Medrano will vie against peers from the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences and the College of Biological Sciences for a chance to compete in the University-level Three-Minute Thesis.

The St. Paul Campus Science in Seconds event will be held on Oct. 30.
