In recognition of his outstanding contributions to dairy medicine, Jim Bennett, ’81 DVM, has been announced as the recipient of the 2021 Boehringer Ingelheim Excellence in Preventive Medicine Dairy Award.

The award was announced on Oct. 9 at the American Association of Bovine Practitioners’ annual luncheon in Salt Lake City. It recognizes individual member practitioners or practices that have developed outstanding preventive medicine programs. As part of the award, a $1,500 general scholarship contribution is made in the name of the recipient to their veterinary college of choice.

Bennett is a partner at Northern Valley Livestock Services in Plainview, Minn., where he has spent the past 40 years of his veterinary career. He is lauded as a rare “jack-of-all-trades,” having developed expertise in nutrition, milk quality, facility design and evaluation, calf management, and more.

He’s also a prolific writer, educator, and consultant, appearing frequently in regional dairy publications as well as the Bovine Practitioner and JAVMA, behind the speaker’s podium at many continuing education events, and on dairy farms around the globe.
