Four College of Veterinary Medicine faculty helped co-author the AVMA’s newly released report on antimicrobial resistance in U.S. animals. It was developed by a team of nearly 50 microbiologists, epidemiologists, and other experts.
Randy Singer, DVM, MPVM, PhD, Peter Davies, BVSc, PhD, Connie Gebhardt, PhD, and Jeff Bender, DVM, MS, DACVPM, co-authored sections of the 100+ page report. The publication is a practical reference guide for veterinarians to use when making therapeutic decisions for their patients.
It describes how veterinary teams, livestock producers, breeders, and animal owners can slow and prevent antimicrobial resistance, includes resistance profiles for various bacteria, and summarizes current knowledge about antimicrobial-resistant bacteria affecting pets, livestock, fish, and shrimp.
