  • Richard J. Nolden, ’56 DVM, Detroit Lakes, Minn., died August 2, 2019 at 86. When he wasn’t practicing veterinary medicine, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf. He is survived by his sister, Sidney Ann Helmer; three children; and eight grandchildren.

  • Roger Pitts, ’79 DVM, Duluth, Minn., died June 5, 2020 at 72. Prior to receiving his DVM, Pitts served in the United States Air Force from 1968-72. Pitts found a passion for teaching the upcoming generation of veterinarians at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, before moving to Denver, Co., and becoming the first board certified internist in private practice in the city. He then moved to Duluth, Minn., where he started a veterinary referral clinic and volunteered his veterinary services to Animal Allies Humane Society. He is survived by his wife, Anne Bernauer. 

  • Kari Searcy, ’12 DVM, Elko New Market, Minn., died May 25, 2020 at 33. Searcy was passionate about horses, and spent a year interning in Seattle, Wa., working primarily in equine medicine. Afterwards she went on to work in private practice in Prior Lake, Minn. She is survived by her parents, Randy and Barb Searcy; and brother, Ryan Searcy. 

  • Milton L. Pietz, ’53 DVM, Ankeny, Iowa, died May 6, 2020 at 93. After receiving his DVM, Pietz worked in private practice as well as in federal meat inspection. He is survived by his four children; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

  • John C. Gregg, ’59 DVM, Cherokee, Ia., died January 9, 2018 at 93. 

  • James M. Svobodny, Champlin, Minn., passed away on April 8 at 90. He is survived by his nephew; grandnieces & nephews, Jaime, Kristy, Jesse; great-grandnieces & nephews, Henri, Greta, Inge, Beatrice, and Max.

  • Apryl Kaufman Goffinet, '75 DVM, Geneva, N.Y., passed away in July 2019 at 70. She is survived by her husband, Martin, and two sons, Samuel and Daniel.

  • Howard J Cook, '52 DVM, Dousman, Wis., passed away on June 14, 2018, at 93. After graduating from the CVM, Cook became a partner at the Waukesha Animal Hospital, specializing in the care for horses and cows. He also cared for animals at the Milwaukee County Zoo and developed the Human Animal Welfare Society's first shelter in Waukesha, Wis. Cook is survived by his daughter, Patricia; 5 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; three great-grandsons; and 3 step great-granchildren.

  • Stephen E. Dille, '69 DVM, Dassel, Minne., passed away on March 25 at 75. After graduating from the CVM, Dille served as a veterinarian in South Vietnam with the USAID, assisting Vietnamese farmers to treat and prevent diseases. He was elected and served for six years as a Minnesota State Representative and 18 years as a Minnesota State Senator, co-authoring significant legislation of clean indoor air acts and enforcement seat belts. Dille is survived by his wife; four children; nine grandchildren; four sisters; and two brothers.
