  • Wayne O. Larson ’73 DVM, Kaneville, Ill., died on Dec. 29, 2022, at age 75. After graduation, Larson and his family moved to Kaneville, where he would go on to establish his own clinic, Kaneville Veterinary Services, which served the large and small animal community for over 30 years.

  • David L. Holmberg, ’73 DVM, Elora, Ontario, died on May 13, 2008, at age 58. Holmberg taught small animal surgery at the University of Guelph from 1986 to 2008. The Stoneymeadow Dr. David Holmberg Scholarship was established in his honor.

  • Dean Peterson, ’74 DVM, Ham Lake, Minn., died in August 2022.

  • Anthony Castro, ’78 DVM, PhD, Green Valley, Ariz., died on May 24, 2022, at 87. Following service in the U.S. Air Force, Castro pursued a career in veterinary diagnostic virology. He worked at diagnostic laboratories at Oklahoma State University-Stillwater, University of California-Davis, and Penn State. Castro is survived by his wife, Marlene; two children, four grandchildren, and his brother.

  • Barbara Coffman, ’78 DVM, Backus, Minn., died on April 12, 2022, at 78.

  • Mark Mattison, ’76 DVM, La Crosse, Wis., died on April 15, 2022, at 70. Mattison practiced large and small animal veterinary medicine as a partner at the La Crosse Veterinary Clinic for 39 years. In 1988, he received his International Veterinary Acupuncture Society Certification, practicing animal acupuncture locally while lecturing across the United States and Canada. Mattison is survived by his wife, Wendy; two children; six grandchildren; and four sisters.

  • Frieda Kooiker, ’78 DVM, Luverne, Minn., died on Jan. 10, 2022, at 68. Kooiker is remembered as a dedicated dairy woman and farmer known for her creativity in designing, crafting, and building items for her yard and flowerbeds. She is survived by her husband, Harlyn; four children; her mother; four grandchildren; three brothers; four sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

  • David G. Blahna, ’78 DVM, ’08 PhD, MPH, Mechanicsburg, Penn., died on Oct. 20, 2021, at 74. Blahna spent much of his career managing a veterinary practice. Later on, he worked for six years as a veterinary medical officer for the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Veterinary Services. He is survived by his wife Linda Brown Warren; his two sons; his two step-daughters; one grandchild; two sisters, Mary Cieplinski of Las Vegas, NV, and Beverly McCarthy of Moorpark, CA; four nephews and nieces; and a sister-in-law.

  • Charles B. "Charlie" Woods, ’73 DVM, Huntersville, N.C., died on Aug. 14, 2021, at 73. Woods completed an internship and residency at the University of Georgia. Afterward, he practiced as a veterinarian in Everett, Wash., for more than 40 years before moving to North Carolina. Woods is survived by his wife, Janis, and his daughter, Elizabeth.
