Fredrick Mansfield, fourth-year DVM student at the College of Veterinary Medicine, has been selected as a recipient of the National Dairy Herd Information Association Veterinarian Scholarship.
The $1,500 scholarship is awarded to third- and fourth-year veterinary students with plans to work in dairy medicine, active participation in dairy medicine and extra-curricular activities, and interest in using dairy software and dairy records to aid in dairy management and in improving animal health.
Food animal systems have been a large part of Mansfield’s life since his teens. He began co-managing his family’s cow-calf operation in 2008. He also has experience working as a farmhand on other farms, serving as a research or student technician on campus, working for veterinary clinics, and, most recently, participating in summer internships on a large dairy system in Minnesota.
“Fred Mansfield is fully dedicated to becoming the best bovine practitioner that he
can be, and will serve our dairy producers and our profession very well,” Dr. Sandra Godden, professor and interim associate dean of graduate programs, wrote in her recommendation letter to the DHIA.
Mansfield will officially receive his scholarship at the 2022 National DHIA Annual Meeting, held Feb. 21-24 in San Antonio, Texas.
