Katie Kosel, a fourth-year DVM student at the College of Veterinary Medicine, recently received a 2024 American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) Award for Proficiency in Primary Care.
The award recognizes fourth-year AAHA student members who have shown outstanding clinical proficiency in delivering primary care to their patients. Kosel was selected by the Veterinary Medical Center’s Primary Care team as the recipient for CVM.
"Katie hit the ground running on rotations. She took the lead on cases and asked thoughtful questions about her problem lists, differential diagnoses, and treatment plans,” the team wrote in its nomination letter. “She was on top of her test results and would reach out for confirmation of her thought process and then follow up with clients in a timely manner.”
The team also praised her for handling patients using Fear Free Certification and techniques.
As part of her award, Kosel will receive five years of complimentary AAHA membership as well as free access to other AAHA continuing education opportunities, services, and publications.
Upon graduation, Kosel will work as a veterinarian at Mission Animal Hospital.
