Dr. Terrance O’Leary, a former associate professor and assistant dean at the College of Veterinary Medicine, passed away on Jan. 3, 2024.

For more than 30 years, he was a faculty member in Veterinary Pathobiology, a predecessor to the current Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences. He also served as assistant dean of student affairs for a few years starting in the late 1980s.

Dr. Terrance O'Leary

O’Leary provided years of excellent service as a pathologist for both the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. A highly valued colleague and well-regarded teacher, he is remembered for his pathology expertise, for paying meticulous attention to detail in preparing his pathology reports, and for fostering close relations between clinicians and pathologists.

He happily shared his diligently taken photos of interesting lesions with students and clinicians alike and was a valued research collaborator, especially in diseases of small ruminants.

O’Leary also spent many years working with the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA) as an advocate for the college and was active on the MVMA Governmental Affairs Committee. He earned the MVMA's Distinguished Veterinary Service Award in his career.
