George Krienke, ’61 DVM, Roseville, Minn., died on May 6, 2026, at age 94. After graduating from veterinary school, Krienke spent his first year working on a brucellosis project for his alma mater. Then, he started the Rice Pet Clinic and Hospital in 1962 in Little Canada, Minn. By 1975, he had built and moved into a new clinic, which he ran until 1991 when his nephew bought the practice.
Merton D. Fetters, ’52 DVM, PhD, Santa Rose, Calif., died on May 6, 2012, at age 87. He is survived by his children, Debra, Daniel, Mark, Becky, Ruth, Tim, Peter, Rachel and Elizabeth; sister, Nancy; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Harold Dziuk, ’54 DVM, Grand Rapids, died on March 28, 2026, at age 85. After receiving his degree and serving two years in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps, Drummond became a professor at Iowa State and then at the University of Minnesota, where he taught for 30 years until his retirement. During that time, he also served as department head for 12 years. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Barb, Mike, Bob, Dave, and Stephanie; stepchildren, Randy and Michelle; 15 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, along with numerous family and friends.
James Dick, ’72 DVM, passed away.
Tamara Johnson, ’89 DVM, passed away. Johnson worked as a small-animal practitioner in central Minnesota for 13 years before becoming the owner of Matador Veterinary Clinic in Brooten, Minn., from 2000 to 2009. She accepted a veterinarian position for Stockmen’s Supply in Fargo, N.D., in 2008. In 2019, she opened Health Paws Veterinary Clinic in West Fargo.
Michael Curley, ’78 DVM, Moorehead, Minn., died on Feb. 14, 2026, at age 71. Curley practiced veterinary medicine for more than 40 years, first as a partner with the Cottonwood Veterinary Clinic and then as district veterinarian for the Minnesota Board of Animal Health. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan; daughter Bridget; sons Thomas and John; and seven grandchildren.
Ian Drummond, ’85 DVM, Tucson, Ariz., died on Jan. 27, 2026, at age 70. Drummond practiced veterinary medicine for 40 years, primarily as chief veterinarian and owner of Corcoran Pet Care Center. After retiring, he and his golden retriever Jett became a pet therapy team. Drummond is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan; children Erin, Colin, and Somer; grandchildren Charlotte and Ben; brothers David, Brian, Kevin and Rick; 19 nieces and nephews; and Jett.
Chitralekha Edwin, ’85 PhD, Timonium, Md., died Oct. 16, 2025, at age 71. After coming to the U.S. to pursue her PhD at the University of Minnesota, Edwin completed a postdoctoral program in infectious diseases. Dedicated to research, she developed pioneering assays that laid the groundwork for diagnosing and understanding complex diseases.
Stanley H. Kleven, ’65 DVM, ’70 PhD, Athens, Ga., died on Jan. 20, 2026, at age 85. In 1970, he moved to the Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center at the University of Georgia, where he remained until partial retirement in 2006 and full retirement in 2008. He served as director of the PDRC and head of the Department of Avian Medicine from 1972 to 1982 and again from 1990 to 2003. Kleven is survived by his wife, Kathy; three children; and a granddaughter.
