In it’s January issue, The Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association highlighted a coalition of international researchers looking for a link between infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) and the influenza A virus in chickens. In November 2019, this project received a million-dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture. Marie Culhane, '97 DVM, '07 PhD, associate professor in the Department of Veterinary Population Medicine, was featured as a co-investigator on this project.
Culhane's career has focused on studying influenza viruses in all species - especially swine and turkeys. Her research in this project seeks to better understand the impact of IBDV exposure and the spread of the avian influenza virus.
