  • Ronald Schuler, ’69, DVM, Long Beach, Wash., died on Sept. 6, 2022, at the age of 82. From 1990 until his retirement in 2017, Schuler practiced veterinary medicine in Orca Island, Wash. He and his second wife, Maggie, also traveled the country competitively showing llamas. Schuler is survived by Maggie, a daughter, a stepson, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four sisters, two sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.

  • Cameron Mikkelsen, ’62 DVM, Devils Lake, N.D., died on April 29, 2022, at age 90. Mikkelsen practiced large animal medicine in North Dakota for 42 years. He owned practices in Oakes, Bowman, and Beach and then did relief work in Jamestown and New Rockford before retiring in 2004. Mikkelsen is survived by his wife, Joyce; three sons; four granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; three stepchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; 19 step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; one brother; and one sister.

  • Scott Sanderson, ’84 DVM, Columbia, Md., died on Oct. 4, 2022, at age 66. He dedicated his life to healing animals and is survived by his former wife, Ronnie; two children; two siblings; and two grandchildren.

  • Charles Kubesh, ’62 DVM, St. Cloud, Minn., died on Feb. 2, 2023, at age 83. While stationed with the U.S. Army in Paris, France, Kubesh oversaw the treatment of service members' animals. He later purchased and ran the Litchfield Veterinary Clinic for 35 years. Near the end of his career, he worked for the USDA for 12 years. He is survived by his wife, Nicole; six children; nine grandchildren; and one brother.

  • Donald Mason, Sr., ’52 DVM, died on Aug. 22, 2022. Before his passing, he was the last surviving member of the Class of 1952.

  • Roger Newman, ’74 DVM, passed away. 

     

  • Charles Chesney, ’70 DVM, Inver Grove Heights, Minn., died on Nov. 21, 2022.

  • Juan Vargas, ’73 PhD, died on April 3, 2020. He completed his PhD in veterinary obstetrics and gynecology.

  • Clair Lewis "Lew" Henke, ’72 MS, Grand Blanc, Mich., died on Sept. 14, 2022, at age 88. He received his MS in veterinary biology. Henke is survived by his wife, Irene; two sons; and five grandchildren.
