Rising third-year DVM student Colleen Kutzler of Philomath, Ore., was honored by the Society for Theriogenology at its annual meeting this summer. Kutzler won third place in the annual student case competition. Her presentation was titled “Dystocia Due to a Congenital Hydrocephalus in a Miniature Dachshund.”
The competition took place virtually and Kutzler feels the remote style removed a lot of the pressure of public speaking, compared to an in-person conference.
“I’m so grateful for this experience and am excited for the year ahead,” Kutzler says.
Her mother is a large animal theriogenologist, which sparked her interests at a very young age. During her third year Kutzler is excited about Comparative Theriogenology and the large animal palpation labs.
“I’m looking forward to the general knowledge and pathology learned in my first and second years really coming together,” Kutzler adds.
The purpose of the competition is to encourage investigative and communication skills, and promote interest and participation in the Society. The awards are sponsored by Merck Animal Health.
