Barbara J. Follstad, ‘60 DVM

Barbara J. Follstad, ‘60 DVM, Lake City, Minn., died on June 24, 2025, at age 89. Follstad studied veterinary medicine at the University of Minnesota and was one of only two women in her graduating class. She married her classmate, Arnold Follstad, and the two opened a veterinary practice in Clark’s Grove, Geneva and Ellendale. In 1968, they joined The Hiawatha Valley Veterinary partnership and moved to Lake City. Follstad worked as a meat inspector with the USDA for Hormel and held annual rabies clinics at Patton Park for several years. She raised guinea pigs and hedgehogs in southern Minnesota and lived in Austin with her beloved Siamese cat until 2020. Follstad is survived by her five children, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many friends.
