Steven Gilbertson, ’70, DVM, Stamford, Conn., died on February 3, 2021, at age 74. Gilbertson’s veterinary career took him to the East Coast, where he held roles at the U. S. Army Institute of Infectious Diseases, the Sloan Kettering Institute, and the Animal Medical Center in New York City. He also co-founded Cen-Vet Laboratories, which was later sold to VCA Antech. Gilbertson is survived by his wife, Jenny Cordero; his four siblings; his sister-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calvert Larsen, ’79 PhD, South Jordan, Utah, died on Jan. 24, 2021, at 87. Larsen grew up on a farm and received his veterinary doctorate from Colorado State University. Later, he obtained a PhD in Veterinary Microbiology-Virology from the UMN College of Veterinary Medicine. In 1979, Larsen became one of the first faculty members to join the new Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. He served as poultry specialist until his retirement in 2002. Larsen is survived by his four children, 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, two sisters and a sister-in-law. He was preceded in death by his wife Colleen, his brother, and his parents.

Diane Sittig, ’72 DVM, St. Paul, Minn., died on February 12, 2021. Upon graduating from the College of Veterinary Medicine, Sittig started a veterinary house call that eventually became Century Animal Clinic in Maplewood, Minn.

Arnie Jostock, ’70 DVM, Dawson, Minn., died on December 5, 2020, at 76. Jostock worked as a veterinarian until retiring in 2014, after working in the field for more than 40 years. He was always active in the community, including serving as a hospice volunteer with his dog Rascal. Jostock is survived by his wife, Bonnie, five children, 12 grandchildren, two brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Steven J. Wilcox, ’73 DVM, St. Cloud, Minn., died on June 15 at 70. Wilcox worked as a small animal veterinarian in Bloomington, Minn., and Lancaster, Calif., for 10 years before transitioning into a position with the USDA Department of Food and Safety Inspection Services. He was a veterinarian medical officer for 31 years before retiring. Wilcox is survived by his wife, Diane; five children; eight grandchildren; and his brother.

Arun Bahl, ’75 DVM, Cornelius, N.C., died on October 15, 2019, at 73. Bahl founded and served as president of Bahl Farms/Consulting Inc.

Steven Cassel, ’74 DVM, Post Falls, Id., died May 8, 2020 at 70. Cassel grew up on a large family farm that instilled in him a passion for the outdoors, fishing, and hunting. He is survived by two brothers and a sister.

Paul L. Veum, ’71 DVM, Port Charlotte, Fla., died December 4, 2012 at 66. After receiving his DVM he started his own practice, Veum Veterinarians, with his brother, Cedric. Veum also served as the Wisconsin State Vice President. He is survived by his wife, Carol; brothers David and Cedric; two children; and two grandchildren.

Roger Pitts, ’79 DVM, Duluth, Minn., died June 5, 2020 at 72. Prior to receiving his DVM, Pitts served in the United States Air Force from 1968-72. Pitts found a passion for teaching the upcoming generation of veterinarians at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, before moving to Denver, Co., and becoming the first board certified internist in private practice in the city. He then moved to Duluth, Minn., where he started a veterinary referral clinic and volunteered his veterinary services to Animal Allies Humane Society. He is survived by his wife, Anne Bernauer.
