  • Byron Sugden, ’71 DVM, Effie, Minn. died on Jan. 24, 2024. He was a lifetime member of the Minnesota Veterinary Medical Association.

  • Virgil Voigt, ’73 DVM, Hutchinson, Minn., died on Dec. 25, 2023, at age 83. Voigt moved to Hutchinson and joined the Hutchinson-Stewart Veterinary Clinic. There, he practiced large and small animal medicine for 20 years. Then, he opened Crow River Veterinary Clinic and focused on small animal treatment for the remaining 20 years of his career. He is survived by his wife, four children, seven grandchildren, two sisters, and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

  • William Clauson, ’70 DVM, Brainerd, Minn., died on Sept. 10, 2023, at age 78. Clauson started his veterinary career working for the Slayton Veterinary Clinic in Slayton, Minn. He is survived by his wife, a sister, three stepdaughters, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

  • Arden Nelson, ’76 DVM, LaPorte, Colo., died on May 8, 2023, at age 70. Nelson was a board-certified dairy veterinarian. He and his wife, Dr. Meg Cattell, owned and operated Windsor Dairy. Nelson was recognized by his colleagues as the American Association of Bovine Practitioners as the 1994 Practitioner of the Year. He is survived by his wife, four children, a grandson, and his sisters.

  • Mary Urhausen, ’73 DVM, Milwaukee, died on Nov. 20, 2018, at age 70. Urhausen acquired a love for animals while growing up on a farm. After obtaining her DVM, she worked for many years at Franksville Veterinary Clinic in Franksville, Wis. Urhausen is survived by two sisters, her brother, a cousin, and other relatives and friends.

  • Janice Niedermeier, ’73 DVM, Clinton, Wis., died on Aug. 4, 2021, at age 71. Niedermeier operated Healthy Companions Veterinary Clinic in Janesville, Wis.

  • Wayne O. Larson ’73 DVM, Kaneville, Ill., died on Dec. 29, 2022, at age 75. After graduation, Larson and his family moved to Kaneville, where he would go on to establish his own clinic, Kaneville Veterinary Services, which served the large and small animal community for over 30 years.

  • David L. Holmberg, ’73 DVM, Elora, Ontario, died on May 13, 2008, at age 58. Holmberg taught small animal surgery at the University of Guelph from 1986 to 2008. The Stoneymeadow Dr. David Holmberg Scholarship was established in his honor.
