    Noelle Noyes receives 2025 Zoetis Award for Veterinary Research Excellence

    Her research is shaping global understanding of antimicrobial resistance through metagenomics and bioinformatics.

Noelle Noyes, associate professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) Department of Veterinary Population Medicine, has been named the 2025 recipient of the Zoetis Award for Veterinary Research Excellence. 

 

A leading researcher in antimicrobial resistance (AMR), bioinformatics, and microbial ecology, Noyes is recognized for work that bridges disciplines and creates real-world impact across the food animal and public health sectors.

 

“This award is very special to me because it is recognition of my work directly from the people I work with on a daily basis,” Noyes says. “There’s no greater honor than to be recognized by my peers, and in particular those who know my work the most closely. It’s a very good feeling and I’m really touched to have been nominated.”

 

Over the past three years, Noyes has led research that integrates veterinary medicine, microbiology, and data science in work that is both collaborative and high-impact. 

 

“Her ability to bridge disciplines and industries makes her work uniquely impactful, producing practical, field-ready solutions that enhance livestock health and food safety,” says Luciano Caixeta, CVM associate professor and one of two people to nominate Noyes.

 

Noyes has built an exceptional record of research productivity, funding success, and international recognition. She has published more than 70 peer-reviewed papers (most of them original research articles), led projects with nearly $14 million in competitive grant support, and earned invitations to speak at major scientific and policy forums, including the Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (PACCARB).

 

Her accomplishments have earned some of the highest distinctions available to early-career faculty, including the University of Minnesota’s McKnight Land-Grant Professorship in 2022. 

 

“Noelle’s approach to research is highly collaborative and transdisciplinary, and she maintains productive research partnerships across diverse disciplines, institutions, and sectors,” says Randall Singer, CVM professor and Noyes’s second nominator. “She has garnered a highly distinguished and deserved international reputation as a leading researcher in antimicrobial resistance and bioinformatics.”

 

Noyes will be recognized at the 2025 RIDE Summit on July 16 and will present her research as the featured speaker at the December RIDE Seminar from noon–1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025.
