Molgaard and collaborators win prestigious AAVMC award

Laura Molgaard, DVM, interim dean at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), helped lead the development of a new framework for competency-based veterinary education (CBVE) which was released at the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges’ (AAVMC) annual meeting in March 2018.

At this year’s AAVMC’s annual meeting in early March, the CBVE Working Group that Molgaard is a part of was honored with AAVMC Presidential Awards for Meritorious Service, which recognizes distinguished service and professional achievement. Andrew MacCabe, DVM, MPH, JD, chief executive officer of the AAVMC, says this work "represents one of the most substantial pedagogical projects ever undertaken by the AAVMC."

The CBVE Working Group developed the CBVE Competency Framework, core Entrustable Professional Activities, and Milestones to serve as resources for veterinary education in colleges and schools around the world. The CBVE resources provide a framework for curriculum review and assessment. They also help students understand where they are in their development to focus their learning and practice.
