For her leadership in the study of feline health, Cailey Ives, a fourth-year DVM student at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, has been recognized as the school’s selection for a special award.
The Primary Care Service at the Veterinary Medical Center chose Ives as its recipient of the 2026-2027 FelineVMA Outstanding Senior Award. The award recognizes one student from an American Veterinary Medical Association-accredited veterinary school with a Feline Veterinary Medical Association (FelineVMA) Student Chapter.
In a nomination letter, the Primary Care team noted Ives has a strong foundation of knowledge of the pillars of preventive care and a commitment to patient follow-up.
“Cailey provides thorough and helpful guidance to clients to address concerns for their pets, including strong written communication,” the team writes. “She has a calm demeanor and excellent feline patient handling skills.”
Following graduation in May, Ives’ passion for feline medicine will continue in Houston, Texas, where she has accepted a position at a feline-only practice.
As part of the award, Ives will receive a complimentary Recent Graduate Membership to the FelineVMA.
